Free Nazanin Countdown
On March 7th 2021, Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe’s 5 year sentence should officially end.
The world is waiting to hear if the Iranian government will release Nazanin and allow her to return home to the UK, to her husband Richard Ratcliffe and their young daughter, Gabriella Ratcliffe.
To mark the end of her sentence and the possibility of her being kept trapped in Iran due to the outstanding second court case they are holding against her, Howell Productions and Amnesty Westminster & Bayswater, with the help of the Free Nazanin campaign, are planning a 10-day countdown, the #FreeNazaninCountdown.
Each day from the 26th February we will release a video counting down the last ten days of Nazanin’s sentence. Nazanin has been held for 1,793 days currently.
Nazanin’s detention and sentence are unjust. She has been tortured and abused and should never have been seized at the airport in the first place.
She has served 5 years for a crime she did not commit.
Keeping her longer only proves that she was imprisoned and held for far more nefarious reasons.
Her case also helps to highlight the similar plight of others falsely held against their will and contrary to International law, by the Iranian government.

This mockery of justice is over and while nothing about her imprisonment has been legal - in their eyes, legally, she should be released, her ankle tag removed, her passport returned, and she should be allowed to come home safely and swiftly.

Elika is Anoosheh Ashoori’s daughter. She is 34 years old and owns her own patisserie business in London as well as being a part time actress.
Elika has campaigned for the freedom of her father and other dual nationals such as Nazanin since her family went public with the news in 2019 and is regularly finding new ways to raise awareness on the issue of dual nationality abroad and the risk it carries.
Anoosheh Ashoori, a retired engineer who was snatched off the streets in 2017 and sentenced to 10 years for "spying for Israel". He remains trapped in Iran.

Kylie is a British-Australian academic and expert on Islamic studies. She was arrested in 2018 after attending a conference in Iran. She was sentenced to 10 years for "espionage". She was released in November 2020.
Fariba is a French-Iranian anthropologist and academic. She was arrested in 2019 and in 2020 was sentenced to 6 years, 5 for "conspiring against national security" and 1 year for "propaganda against the state". She remains trapped in Iran.

Shappi Khorsandi, Victoria Coren Mitchell, Jolie King and Tulip Siddiq read One Day of Freedom cards, joined by the Cast of Nazanin's Story, Cardiff Amnesty and supporters of the Free Nazanin Campaign.
We have been collecting One Day of Freedom cards since 2017 and when Nazanin is returned home, we will turn these cards into a book for Nazanin, Richard and Gabriella to look through and choose a card to do, as a family, together.

Golrokh Iraee is an Iranian writer, accountant and a human rights defender. She was imprisoned in 2014 and in 2016 was sentenced to six years for “insulting the sacred” and “propaganda against the state,” after she wrote a unpublished story about stoning in a notebook she kept at home.

A Blindfold Remains, was written by Niloufar Bayani, a Iranian wildlife activist and researcher. She was convicted in 2019 of espionage by Iranian authorities in a closed-door trial in Iran, and received a 10-year prison sentence.
